19th Sunday after Pentecost

Today we recognize Truth and Reconciliation Day with readings from Gospel of Mark and Book of Esther, as well as a poem for Truth and Reconciliation by Thamer Linklater, a member of Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation and a survivor of the Child Welfare system. A Homily from Bill Whitla emphasizes the historical and ongoing impacts of colonization, urging the audience to reflect on the complexities of reconciliation, justice, and loyalty in both personal relationships and broader societal structures. The sermon links the biblical texts to modern-day issues, including the treatment of First Nations people and ethical dilemmas surrounding loyalty, such as those faced by whistleblowers.
