prisoner justice day

Today is Prisoner Justice Day. It all began in 1974, when a prisoner by the name of Eddie Nalon committed suicide in solitary confinement at Millhaven Maximum Security Prison, located in Bath, Ontario. On the first anniversary of Eddie´s death, August 10th 1975, prisoners at Millhaven refused to work, went on a one day hunger strike and held a memorial service, even though it would mean a stint in solitary confinement. Many of the alleged leaders in this one day peaceful protest would still be in segregation a year later.

Tonight at 6 the church is hosting a memorial event for Eddie and all the other prisoners who have died behind bars. There will be ceremony, speakers, refreshments for those who aren’t fasting and much more.

Please join us in commemorating this important day.
