Fran’s many gifts

We celebrated Fran’s life today.

During the service there were many wonderful moments shared including a poem Fran wrote shortly after Ian’s death:

This sweet wind will carry me
Over the hill of mortality
To the land of soul’s peace
Where waking and sleeping go apace
There is no fear, there is no dread
In the kind country of the dead.

One of the readings was a poem by Ian:

Song of Passage

As it rejoins the primal surge
of forever dancing elements
my body shall learn the way
for meadow grass and flowers
under snow and gracious showers.
So, that spark of living light
I am Life of life’s creating forge,
shall flit in children’s children’s
in purposeful urgent loins
where mortal with immortal joins.
Bless the friends on pilgrim paths!
Bless roads not taken on my way!
Bless that legion whose labours
answered to my various needs!
Bless each soil that cradles seeds!

In the online group, Fran’s baked bean recipe was shared and its greatness extolled. I share it below for those who may like to try it. Thanks to Rachael Zacharias for the sharing and the image.
