Easter Day!

On Sunday, April 1, we gathered as a community to celebrate Easter. We flowered the Cross, sang, listened to scripture and held a community feast.

These photos were taken by our caretakers and Vivian Harrower.

Thank you, Stella!

On Wednesday, February 21, one of our long-time People Presence volunteers, Stella Savage, retired from the ministry. We had a tiny surprise party for her! Thank you Stella, for your commitment to keeping the doors open and  welcoming all those who enter.

If you are interested in volunteering for People Presence, Sunday breakfast hosting, or any other volunteer position, please contact Kate Werneburg, volunteer co-ordinator at kwerneburg@holytrinitytoronto.org.

CANCELLED: Lifting Spirits Jun 21

cocktails, singing
and stuff to eat

CANCELLED JUNE 21 because of a watermain break in Trinity Square Park. We have no water and can’t go ahead. See you in September.

We’ll be opening early for a summer solstice edition of Lifting Spirits. Our Refugee Committee is hosting its annual book sale in support of settling the refugee families we are sponsoring this year. Proceeds from bar sales until 5pm will also go to our refugee work.

I’ll be spinning records in the main church from noon onwards and we’ll have snacks and sharing plates available from about 3pm. We hope you’ll find some time to walk the outdoor Labyrinth and reflect on the turning of the year.

Full Schedule

Noon-3pm — limited bar service (wine, beer, cider, soft drinks). It’s a beautiful space, bring your lunch or buy something from the Trinity Square Cafe.
3pm — full bar service begins in the main part of the church and so does conversation with your friendly bartender and others. I’ll be spinning vinyl new and old and we’ll have snacks and sharing plates available from then also.
4:30-7pm — full food service and ongoing music and conversation
6-7pm — Pub Choir — we’ll be singing songs with a solstice angle and also celebrating the work of indigenous songwriters. Alan Gasser will be helping lead the singing including a chance to try a little Georgian singing.
7-9pm — ongoing bar service and conversation

Lifting Spirits and voices

Lifting Spirits just finished its second edition. Thirty years earlier, almost to the day, The Cowboy Junkies recorded their breakout album, The Trinity Session right here at HT. The sound in our space is amazing and we made good use of it. Pub Choir sang three songs from that album and did three more that were a little easier to wrap our lips around and made the room ring.

James Harbeck took some great pictures, though they seem to miss many people, maybe he has more to share. 🙂 Continue reading Lifting Spirits and voices

Lifting Spirits: Solstice Edition

Since ancient times, the sun has been an object of fascination. Without it, there is no life on Earth, and it is good to use this moment of the solstice or “sun stand still”,  as it is literally translated, to mark changes internal and external in our world.

On December 21 from 8:30 pm-10:30 pm, we will celebrate the longest night of the year with a candle lit labyrinth walk, followed by  refreshments and singing inside.  Join this family-friendly version of Lifting Spirits as we observe the turning of the year!
